Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society (SPPS) / brand touchpoints

Sometimes plain A4 becomes a real prize in the creative process. The SPPS Awards are given to senior scientists for their significant contributions in the advancement of plant science. The award statue contains an actual real gilded leaf of Laurus Nobilis – an ancient symbol of highest status and victory. This plant and particularly its leaves have long cultural roots in the academic world dating back to the ancient Greece. Each prize is handmade and the leaf has been cast into a resin using a Petri dish. The SPPS award thus brings together a symbol of experimental laboratory science used in plant physiology and an ancient symbol of victory. The polished disk is attached to a matt black wooden pedestal to give it the precious final touch. The image concept utilises two images of pine tree needles. As pines are a significant and economically very important part of Scandinavian forests, the concept also delivers a message on what plant physiology is in practice. Website design is inspired by science: classical, functional and minimalist.
